It Was All A Dream

Skipped a whole day yesterday.  It was a long, hard day in terms of SG work and 1NU work.  It payed off in the end but it came at the sacrifice of my personal and academic productivity.  I need to complete my deal summaries today, write two papers, and attend 6 or so hours worth of meetings plus a dinner appointment.

I don’t remember what I dreamed about but I certainly have an important task to do today.  A friend of mind found out I was a human being when it comes to a certain thing - I guess my friend’s right.

Wish me luck with that one!

If I Should Die Before I Wake

Round 2, I missed my mark.  I started my reading for my fifth task and am comfortable with finishing it on Saturday, and I couldn’t figure out what the essay question is for my film class essay due on Tuesday - my fourth task for Friday.  Looks like Saturday night after a day of interviews and a funeral of a family member I will be back to the books to get a couple extra things done.  Saturday will be my weekend hump day and I look forward to it.

Now if I’m not up and at em’ in the morning my life take-aways from the day would be to realize that seizing the moral high ground when dealing with people who (to me) are egregiously pursuing their self-interests in struggles for power ultimately sets you on a path for success.  One of our tests in life is whether we are willing to sacrifice our self-interests for causes greater than ourselves.  Some people get that sooner than others.

Passion trumps politics I guess is what I’m trying to say.  Because with passion comes unlimited might and resilience when vying for your cause.  Pursue your passions everyday and life will certainly be meaningful.  Politics has its place but not when it gets to a point where it begins to sacrifice integrity.

Deep Thoughts

  • Johnny: Well... I didn't think you had it in you.
  • Doc: I'm your huckleberry..
  • Doc: Why, Johnny Ringo. You look like somebody just...walked over your grave.
  • Johnny: Fight's not with you, Holliday....
  • Doc: Oh, I beg to differ, sir. You and I started a game we never got to finish. Play for blood, remember?
  • Johnny: I was just fooling about.
  • Doc: I wasn't.

The Saving Thing

We love tangible, the confirmation, the palpable, the real, the visible, the concrete, the known, the seen, the vivid, the visual, the social, the embedded, the emotional laden, the salient, the stereotypical, the moving, the theatrical, the romanced, the cosmetic, the official, the scholarly-sounding verbiage (b******t), the pompous Gaussian economist, the mathematicized crap, the pomp, the Academie Francaise, Harvard Business School, the Nobel Prize, dark business suits with white shirts and Ferragamo ties, the moving discourse, and the lurid. Most of all we favor the narrated.
Alas, we are not manufactured, in our current edition of the human race, to understand abstract matters – we need context. Randomness and uncertainty are abstractions. We respect what has happened, ignoring what could have happened. In other words, we are naturally shallow and superficial – and we do not know it. This is not a psychological problem; it comes from the main property of information. The dark side of the moon is harder to see; beaming light on it costs energy. In the same way, beaming light on the unseen is costly in both computational and mental effort.

It Was All A Dream

I got up this Friday feeling good.  But then I realized I needed to dress nicely and prepare for two important meetings this afternoon.  Bummer…

I also have a meeting in thirteen minutes so I won’t be finishing this post until after that

****Break****

Okay now I’m back.  Far later in the day for this message to hold its original intent of being a morning outlook.  But I was able to meet with an aspiring student who seeks to enable students to pursue their dreams through a non-profit he is starting, my rommate finally stopped by the office for the first time ever and helped me figure out my email crisis which I will reflect on tonight, and now I am on my way to make this day a happy one with two big meetings.

My goal today is to accomplish enough where I can smile when it’s bed time.

If I Should Die Before I Wake

I can’t see the keys on my keyboard.  It’s 4:20AM and I am wide awake.  I’ve changed my sheets, posted photos to flickr, cleaned my office, mastered Apple’s “Things” application, and have finally reached the unreachable point of email enlightenment (0 emails in the inbox and 0 in the follow-up folder).

If I don’t wake up tomorrow morning - the most important memories I had today was a conversation I had with my father on personal health, my thoughts about my mother and her battle with cancer at dinner with a professor and a friend, my regrets for not going to see my sister this Saturday, and my passionate discourse with two of my best friends at this school until 3AM in the office to refocus each other on the BIG PICTURE in life.

I’ve loved my life so far.  Looking forward to the next problem opportunity!
